Bronzers: Tans for the Rest of Us

Whether you are fair skinned or are blessed to always have some coloring, bronzers can be used in a variety of ways. They can add some color as well as provide definition to help make the illusion of higher cheekbones. Here are my top bronzers I use to fake a bronzy glow complexion.

Nars Laguna Bronzing Powder

The first time I saw this in the pan, I wasn’t sure what all the fuss was about. While I love some sparkle, I usually leave that to my highlighter. The last thing I want is my bronzer, blush, and highlighter all to have sparkle and turn my cheeks into two disco balls. However, the fine sparkles that you see in the pan do not transfer onto your face and it is not as dark on your skin as it is in the pan. Instead you are left with a natural sheen and bronze glow. This was my first bronzer and the only bronzer I used for the longest time. It does not have an orange tint and is very natural looking on a variety of skin tones. As you can see, mine has received a lot of love.

Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer

It smells like chocolate and is actually made with cocoa powder. Do I need to continue? I love that this completely matte bronzer comes in two colors that are sure to suit everyone. I personally have the milk chocolate but it comes in chocolate as well which is a little darker. Although the chocolate scent doesn’t have much staying power, the color itself does. It blends easily and does not leave any unnatural coloring to the skin. During the winter months, this is my go to bronzer simply because it is my lightest bronzer and any tan that I may have had is completely gone by October.

Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder in Golden Light

During my first use of this bronzer, I thought it was too dark for my skin tone and had a slight orange tint that nobody likes to see. After a couple of uses, I found out that this is best used for contouring and ended up enjoying it. I also use this mainly during the summer months when my skin is a tad bit tanner just because this is a darker bronzer for me. Something that is a must with this bronzer is blending. I do not find it to blend as easy if you use a really dense brush. A minimal amount and a fluffier contouring brush helps this product work nicely.

NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder in Sunny

If you are looking for a drugstore bronzer, I could not recommend this one enough. It definitely competes with the other bronzers I have reviewed and the price is such a steal. The coloring is not as light as the Milk Chocolate by Too Faced and not as dark as the Bobbi Brown. When compared to the others it appears to have a slight reddish hint but appears natural on the skin. However like those two bronzers, it is completely matte and great for contouring.

Always remember the golden rule: apply your bronzer where the sun would naturally hit your face. It should emphasize the high points of your face to give you a glow. Once it is applied too much, your face starts to become a different color than the rest of your body, and that is not cute. I hope to try a cream bronzer soon, such as the Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base or Sonia Kashuk Undetectable Crème Bronzer. Let me know your favorites and if you have tried these new cream based bronzers that seem to be making an appearance.
